Young Carers Awareness Day!

Let's all sing out for Young Carers , it is Young Carers Awareness Day!

A day to raise awareness of these wonderful young people and to think about the support we could offer them.

Ystradgynlais Carers Meet Service Providers

A group of Carers from the Ystradgynlais area met for the second time with service providers from Powys County Council, Powys teaching Health Board and the local third sector organisations to discuss the issues that Carers had previously raised and to work together to find a way forward.

At the first meeting in May everyone had promised to do what they felt they could to improve the communication from and between servcies and Carers. At the meeting in November we could report that one of the Carers had become a Carers Ambassador for Carers Wales and was raising the awareness of Carers;including speaking at the Senedd on Carers Rights Day. Kirsty Williams AM had tabled an amendment to the Social Services and Wellbeing Act having heard the Carers concerns in May. A Carer had found a helpful booklet produced by the local GP practice and shared it will all present.

A second issue of transport problems, including transport to and from hospital and medical appointments was raised. Local Community Transport officer Sarah Leyland Jones froom PAVO was there to listen to the Carers' concerns and took the information back to PAVO, the council for commissioning and it will be fed into the Carers Thematic Board's discussions.

Thank you to everyone who came for your great energy and committment to working together to make things better for Carers.
