Welcome to the Young Carers Area
Who are Young Carers?
Young Carers are children and young people up to the age of 16 who have caring responsibilities from someone who has a physical or mental illness, a physical or learning disability or a drug or alcohol problem.
The person they look after may be a parent, a brother or sister, a grandparent or other relative.
They may provide any or all of the following:
- Practical, physical care
- Help with personal care (bathing, dressing)
- Help with domestic tasks (cooking, cleaning)
- Emotional Support
- Overtired
- Anxious
- Confused
- Unable to keep up with school work
- Isolated from their friends
Our Young Carers Service can provide:
- Support
- Information
- Someone who will listen and understand
- Groups and Activities
- Support with school
- Advocacy (someone to speak on your behalf eg with school)
